KS1 Computing

Last week in computing the children focused their learning on binary questions. This is where you answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to a question and then your answer will lead you to another question. We picked an insect, then answered some questions to see if we could get the right answer!

Safer Internet Day 2016

During the week of 8th February, every class in school spent some time focusing on this year's Safer Internet Day theme, 'Play your part for a better Internet'. Here are some of the posters the children made.

This half term in PSHE, the theme has been road safety. The children have been using the Think! Education website to help them with their learning.

Spanish Learning

Key Stage 1 are learning numbers in Spanish. Here they are using '2Simple Spanish' on the computers and 'Learn Spanish Numbers' on the iPads.

We are using Guided Access on the iPads, which keeps the device (and children!) in a single app.

KS1 Computing

In Computing, the children have been learning about photography and what a super photograph looks like. The children have been experimenting with taking artistic photographs using the iPads and editing them using a range of filters. Here are some of the photos the children have taken.

Thank you to all parents and carers who have started to bring in photos that we can include in our calendars. This week we have been using Google images to search for ideas that we can use to take fancy photos! We have found glittery leaves and interesting things we can do with paint. We all can’t wait to make our calendars!

Festival of Learning and Chromebooks

This Summer term, we have invested in 45 chromebooks for years 5/6 and have introduced Google Apps for Education to all children in years 3/4 and 5/6. This enables them to collaborate on their learning, access their learning in school and at home as well as be able to communicate with their peers and teachers using their school email account. Another perk of Google Apps for Education is the sites function, which is what a group of children used to create the below website on the Festival of Learning Day- check it out!

Safer Internet Day 2015

During the week beginning the 9th March 2015, all the children in school participated in Safer Internet Day. Each phase had a separate day where the main focus was keeping safe online.

The theme for Safer Internet Day this year was 'Creating a Better Internet Together'. From reception through to year 5/6, all children engaged in age appropriate discussions and activities around how they use the internet and how to keep themselves safe online.

Dear Parent/ Carer,

Many children and young people will be receiving the latest gadgets such as tablets, smart phones and games consoles this Christmas.

The internet and all it can offer, is a wonderful tool for keeping in touch with friends and family, however parents and carers need to be aware that it is possible for people who are not known to your children and young people, to communicate with them via the internet.

Some parents, carers or relatives might not realise that even games consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation are connected to the internet and can be used for communicating as well as playing games.

While using these gadgets is second nature for many children and young people, they can seem quite daunting for parents or carers who may not be as technologically savvy.

Simple, step-by-step instructions have been produced on how to set the privacy settings on the most popular applications and games consoles used by children and young people.

If you have bought a child or young person a new gadget eg; mobile, games console or ipad for Christmas, you can follow these instructions and enable these settings before you give your gift and therefore help protect your child or young person online.

Key Stage 1 Computing: We are collectors

Key Stage 1 children have been using their skills to search the Internet for copyright free images linked to their topic on animals.

They've then imported them to Smart Notebook and sorted the animals, using their word processing skills to add a label or question.

In school this year, we are doing a lot of awareness around how to stay safe online. Our children have access to the internet through all sorts of devices these days and it is important that we know we are educating them in how to protect themselves. In order for us to do this effectively, we require a little help from you. We would be very grateful if you could spare 5 minutes of your time to complete an anonymous questionnaire about your child’s usage of technology outside of school. The survey can also be found by clicking here . 2Build a Profile @ Robin Hood

Staff at Robin Hood have been developing their use of 2Build a Profile to record classroom observations over the last few months. It's helping to transform practice!

The new computing curriculum begins!

This term sees the introduction of England's new computing curriculum at Robin Hood, which has more emphasis on programming skills.


This half term Key Stage 1 are learning how to use the Internet to find images; Lower Key Stage 2 are programming using Scratch (http://scratch.mit.edu/) and Upper Key Stage 2 are developing their blogging skills.

Shape Collage

I came across these which were created using the iPad app Shape Collage during Year 5/6's Risk IT day. It's a creative way of sharing learning and the photos can be used within other software.

 

This design is a particular favourite!
